This hall contains paintings by the two of the leading Venetian painters of the second half of the 16th century – Paolo Veronese (1528–1588) and Jacopo Tintoretto (1518–1594).
Veronese is represented by works in several genres. In his sketch of Diana he made the Roman goddess resemble a statue come to life. The Adoration of the Magi is a striking spectacle inspired by the Nativity story. The tragic Lamentation is a late masterpiece, while a special place in his oeuvre is taken by the Self-Portrait.
Tintoretto’s depiction of Saint George, a warrior who according to legend saved a princess from a dragon, is painted in an expressive manner.
